This week Jim and Ted go extra terrestrial with three "out of this world" connected trailers. The theme is a stretch but so is getting to the moon on slide rulers, chalk, paper and pencil. They get through some of the great trailers that came out in the glut of Trailer-palooza 2018 (when 20 or so trailers releases in the first week of June). We had a fan suggestion with the older but releasing a couple of weeks ago, Mr. Rogers documentary. They also included the teaser for the Tim Burton / Disney #ani2act a new category where Disney rules. Do you like this hashtag? It's a genre defined as classic animation that is adapted to live action.

This week Jim and Ted host Bryce with his 8-year-old perspective. Ted gives you a bunch of Three Word Reviews to cover all the trailers that were released this week. We can't talk about them all, so Ted does what he can.

Peppermint, The Sisters Brothers, and The Happytime Murders

In Jennifer Garner's latest movie, Peppermint, we finally have a good use of the trailer to the trailer. The audio bite used from Jennifer Garner is not repeated in the body of the main trailer. It's additive without being repetitive. The other trailers this week are refreshing in their takes on genres that could use new takes.
The Sisters Brothers gives a comedic twist to a gritty western while preserving the verisimilitude of a Westworld real western.
We end with the The Happy Time Murders that places your beloved Muppets in an awkward position, but they have a Melissa McCarthy to guide them, which is right in her wheelhouse and looks to deliver another solid comedic performance.

The Upfronts

Thursday May 31, 2018
All the major networks (and this year ABC added freeform) still did their Upfronts (a dog and pony show where stars are brought out in front of a theatre full of advertisers and they get to enjoy pandering and extended trailers.) Jimmy Kimmel does some light roasting and NBC tries to sell shorter commercials, less ads - like a bad ripoff of Jerry Maguire. But CBS has a large core audience in the linear space and they intend on keeping them there as long as the TVs can stay on, long after the people watching have gone to sleep or left this plane of existence.

Mile 22, Black Klansman, & Bohemian Rhapsody

Thursday May 24, 2018
It's episode 27 and Jim & Ted are reviewing Mile 22, the latest in a long legacy from Peter Berg. From there they talk about Black Klansman... A Spike Lee Film, if you can believe it. Actually, Jim & Ted can believe it. They wrap things up with their anchor trailer of Bohemian Rhapsody. Both Jim & Ted are excited to see this movie in a theater with great sound. Enjoy!

The Yellow Birds, Adrift, & Leave No Trace

Thursday May 17, 2018
This week Jim and Ted meet the challenge, and by meet the challenge we mean they watch some trailers about people who endure extreme pressure from war and natural disaster then return home in turmoil with the pressures of our modern civilization. Jim does not like Ted's 3 word reviews for this week... Something about brothers and mothers. What the...?

Woman Walks Ahead, Venom, & A Kid Like Jake
Thursday May 03, 2018
Thursday May 03, 2018
We know we just gave you our A24 Trailerspective, but since this is our 24th episode and Woman Walks Ahead moved us on so many levels we thought, why not another one from A24? Molly's Game was our first podcast and now we have Jessica Chastain in another powerful female lead role. Sam Rockwell can add his Academy Award Winning credentials to this one to boost the casting cred!
In one day the Venom trailer amassed 14 million views on the official site and anywhere from 1 million to 10 million across other youtube channels. Jimmy will probably pass on this movie while Ted is giddy with excitement, to say the least, when he learned they cast Tom Hardy.
And last for this week, a true story about A Kid Like Jake. After repeated viewing this trailer, and subsequent movie felt more like it is telling a story of a modern struggle in parenting (a recurring theme TJP seems to be visiting regularly). This brings the star talent you come to expect within a much different role. Jim Parsons and Claire Danes give a refreshing performance reminding casting directors that they both have a range beyond what they are known for.

Equalizer 2, Westworld Season 2, & Lost in Space
Thursday Apr 26, 2018
Thursday Apr 26, 2018
Not even Ted's love of Denzel and Antoine Fuqua can excite them into going and seeing this film. A great trailer but without feeling any peril for the lead Jim and Ted will only happen upon this movie accidentally while streaming.
From the big screen Jim and Ted move to the small screen with big players and big budgets. As HBO and Netflix show some ambition with their respective series. No matter what Ted talks about when he mentions Lost in Space whether it be at a Bat mitzvah or with Jimmy on the pod everyone loves The Expanse. Ted gets it, he needs to watch The Expanse.
Lastly, Ted mentioned a piece of long-form marketing for the launch of the last season of Lost. It's long at 8 minutes but Ted's a Lost super fan so this was a mere amuse-bouche.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Ideal Home, & The Meg!

This week Jim & Ted tackle a theme they didn't realize they were tackling. It's sort of a dramatic comedic theme surround three very different trailers. One of these movies took more than two decades to finish. There's lot's of questions asked and some were answered leaving more questions to be answered. Well, that made sense in my head. Enjoy!
